and presents on the tree...

The best gifts come from the heart, not the store.
— Sarah Dessen

I have always loved Christmastime, and I know this is not an unpopular sentiment. But I love Christmas primarily for the opportunities it gives to really feel the fullness of life:

  • that warm feeling of being cushioned by love
  • the moments of calm, no worries, no responsibilities
  • the moments of chaos and noise with family
  • tasting lovingly prepared food, comfortingly the same year after year
  • that singular moment when they open up your gift and first glimpse it
  • feeling pure joy of giving someone something special

Gift-giving at Christmas is a big thing for my small family; since I can remember, the tree on the morning of December 25th was surrounded by any number of meticulously wrapped and thoughtfully decorated presents, the whole picture a testament of care and love. I think we tend to save one time a year--at the end of the year--to indulge in the expression of the "gift-giving" love language. (My main language is quality time, so as you can imagine, it's a total love-fest for me at the holidays no matter what.)

This year, I'll be making lots of handmade gifts (mostly because I've been creating lots of goodies for craft fairs and custom orders, so it's just easy!!). I'd love to share these with you. As you may have read in my newsletter, I have a whole host of new goodies on my Etsy page:

One of the best parts of my job as chief scribbler at ink & flourish calligraphy is creating special, one-of-a-kind pieces for my clients to gift to their loved ones. It's really the coolest. So take a peak, and let me know if there's something you'd like to customize.

**For my newsletter subscribers, I'm offering a special deal: the deadline for custom orders is extended to next Tuesday, December 12th!**

Wishing you a peaceful and warm month steeped in love. <3
